Starting a new life. (Yuerjie Township)
On 9th July,2008. It was crowded in the school hall even as it rained heavily; it was because ADRA China was hosting a ceremony to distribute the credit funds to the participants of our microfinance project.
ADRA works with the local leading group on the Poverty Alleviation and Development for the microfinance project which aims to provide small loans to low-income farmers without mortgage. ADRA also provides lots of workshops and training for the participants.
Yuerjie Township is a typical township lying under the poverty line, lacking development and still dependent on agriculture as income. The farmers and the local committees are determined to work together with ADRA to give their town and their life a makeover. After one-half year of hard work, ADRA credit funds have just been distributed to the self-help groups in July.
Project tips:
ADRA China’s microfinance project firstly performed its needs assessment in the field, then provided training to participants selected by the local groups. Once a proposal is approved as a sustainable project (such as buying livestock or seeds. . .), they would receive a loan ranging from $1500 to $2000 RMB. The repayment period of Huoshan’s project is 3 months. Up til now, there are 37 local groups (237 families) who have joined the program.
